Biodiesel Production From Used Oil

Who could ever imagine converting used oil into a power fuel for your vehicle?  No way!  But the truth is, it can be done even at home.  Used oil can be processed to become biodiesel.

The process starts with having background knowledge or a working knowledge of biodiesel, its benefits and its processes before you can even think about changing used oil into engine fuel.  If you know about it, then you can get the best kit that suits your need and try going outdoors to get used oil.

How and where are you going to get tons of used oil?

It takes initiative to talk to a nearby restaurant and arrange for gallons of used oil.  Used oils are those vegetable oils they used for frying foods.  Some of them even pay amounts for the disposal of their stocks of used oil.  Use this advantage to avail the material.  Without necessarily expecting to get paid for being delivered with used oil, at least you night get them for free.  After a reasonable agreement with the restaurant administrator on the schedules as to when you are going to pick up the used oil, then you are assured of constant supply of the raw material.

How will the process of biodiesel production happen?

There are necessary things to consider.  The first is space.  If you have an ample area in your garage, then you can do the process freely.  You can purchase processors to do your project.  Remember that it takes precautionary measures to do biodiesel production.  If you feel the need to heat the oil, there is risk of causing a big fire in your neighbor because you are dealing and working with a very combustible material.

With the use of a processor, you can combine the catalysts by following instructions from your manual.  The catalyst will separate the oil and glycerin and generate secondary elements.  Glycerin settles at the bottom and can be removed by draining from underneath until you are left with no other element but the biodiesel.  Then the whole process is complete.

The separated glycerin can still be used for manufacturing of soap.  You can either dispose it or find buyer.

What are the solutions in storing your homemade biodiesel?

100%  biodiesel must have a specific storage unit.  Storing them without knowledge can only spoil it.  Placing it in selected inappropriate metal containers made of brass, zinc, lead, and tine can oxidize it and form gel contents.  The best biodiesel storage is fiberglass and other plastics.

Combining biodiesel as an additive to petroleum fuel has to adhere to standard procedures.  It will take an expert to do this.  In the meantime, it is important to know up to when you are going to store the processed biodiesel in a limited span of time of up to 6 months.  With the constant need for fuel, biodiesel is less likely stored for long periods of time.  It is considered to be in demand and very consumable like any other commercial commodities.

With the use of homemade biodiesel, there are substantial advantages on cost.  Basically, it is very cheap in cost but very efficient and safe for use.  Biodiesel is specifically friendly to the surroundings because of its safe ingredient.  During engine combustion, it emits lesser carbon monoxide and other harsh gases.
