Making Biodiesel At Home
It's possible for
anyone to make biodiesel - you can make it in your home, right
there in the kitchen if you wish!
Why would you want to use
biodiesel let alone begin making it at home? Well, your engine
will last longer, it's like sticking two fingers up at the huge
corporations that charge what they like for fuel and most
importantly it's better for the environment.
First of all you have to
decide how you're going to be using your biofuel, you can use
straight vegetable oil - not waste oil but fresh. You can mix
it with petro-diesel or it can be converted to
biodiesel.
It's generally agreed that
using biodiesel is much more preferable to using straight
vegetable oils. The advantages are numerous - it will work in
any diesel engine, needing no modifications whatsoever. It also
has the strong advantage of having been through numerous tests
unlike straight vegetable oil. Biodiesel does end up being more
expensive but it's probably the safer option in the long
run.
Of course, you also have to
process biodiesel but this is something which is easily
achievable and there's also an ever growing homebrewer's scene
which it's great to be a part of.
So, roughly, how do we go
about it...?
