The Dawn Of Biodiesel Generators
The use of biodiesel will give insurmountable benefits as an
alternative power source if used to fuel generators. Being a by-product of soybean oil, once processed with a catalyst, it can be converted
into another form of efficient fuel (ester-based).
A generator is converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. The source of energy could be a turbine
(wind or water), combusting engine or any other mechanical means of motion. When related to biodiesel fuel, it is all about engine
combustion, as the main function of fuels in mechanisms like vehicles and related equipments used in complex processes.
If biodiesel can function like ordinary gasoline (petroleum diesel) in the market, there is no reason why it
can't be a standard fuel for generators. Made out of vegetable oils, biodiesel emits safe gases in the air unlike petroleum products.
What matters is when there is combustion involved and the elements could ignite the process to generate power.
In the onset of any power crisis in any locality, plus the constant threat of ozone depletion due to radical
elements emitted by carbon monoxides in combusted fuels, the need to find an alternative is the reason why biodiesel has been carefully studied
to shift the use of power sources in the United States. The US has been struggling to lessen the dangerous effects petroleum
chemicals can do to the environment. Implementing the use of biodiesel generators will reduce the amount of pollutants.
Undiluted B100 (100% biodiesel) had been used for this purpose. A project was carried
out in 2001 at The University of California Riverside, to observe the amount of fumes petroleum diesel gives off compared to
biodiesel. The result shows that the harmful elements are reduced by 50% when biodiesel generators are used as fuel substitute.
Biodiesel has been studied for many years to establish a cost effective means of generating power with the use
of organic natural ingredients commonly available - namely vegetable oil.
In reality, there are other energy substitutes already existing for common use except they are too costly or
impractical for public consumer use. Such alternatives are solar energy, nuclear energy, petroleum, geothermal energy, hydropower, wind
power, and other natural gases. Every effort to make use of the existing means will mean excessive funding. Biodiesel, on the other
hand, is readily available like a common commodity. It will not be hard to use it to fuel generators safely in case the need
arises.
The whole continuation of research and development concerning biodiesel is all about creating sub products that have surpassed the test of
disadvantages. Its utmost concern is to benefit many people and at the same time help the environment breathe. The use of
petroleum-based fuels will only cause more harm, unless they are totally eradicated or converted in such a way as being blended with
biodiesel, which substantially reduces the pollutants in the air.
In the case of the biofueled plants, the system will make an innovative back up, which can prevent future power
shortages and eliminate the problem in the future. Without hydrocarbons being emitted, the horizon will be smog-free and friendlier.
Although the free radicals can't be avoided altogether, further studies can improve the technology and who knows, if the right blend is
hit? Can biofuel really help the ozone crisis? This is something yet to be revealed...
