<< Biodiesel News Update  The Fuel Of The Future? >>

Hey folks,

So here we go with our "weekly" round-up of biodisel goodness from around the world. I hope you enjoy it…

Safeway Go Green

The story that seems to have cropped up the most around the web this week is news that supermarket giant Safeway will now run its fleet of over 1000 trucks on biodiesel fuel across the USA.

"Our customers care about these types of sustainability issues, and we are proud to be a leader in environmental best practices," said Joe Pettus the senior vice president

China Gets Biodiesel Friendly

In the northern provnce of Hebei, around 7,000 hectares of biodiesel forest will be grown.

China is trying its best to fuel its massive and fast growing economy and its turned to biodiesel to achieve that.

Biodiesel At The Movies

Biodiesel will be featured in the upcoming film "Fields of Fuel". Josh Tickell's movie will be screened at the Sundance Film Festival this week and Tickell has used the movie to call for better support for biodiesel from politicians.

Although mainly a mouthpiece for the director's environmental preoccupations the film does offer some decent educational fodder about our favourite fuel source.

EU Bans Palm Oil Biodiesel?

Although it's Europe's aim to provide at least 10% of all vehicle fuel from biofuels by the year 2020, the EU is currently planning to ban palm oil biodiesel.

Environmentalists aruge that fuels made from palm oil are doing more damage to the environment because of the destruction of rainforests.

It seems the EU will ban any biofuel derived from "sensitive ecosystems" such as tropical forests and grasslands.

A reasonably quiet time for all things biodiesel this week, any questions or comments please leave your message below and let's get some discussions going…

I hear talk about dry wasy with magnesol. How does this work?
any one with experience? Please comment.

Good to get the latest info. The more the establishment - ie Safeway - get on board the sooner the message gets mainstream acceptance.
I write a Biodiesel blog that your readers may be interested in, you can reach it here: http://making-biodiesel-news.blogspot.com. The Biodiesel crusade is much slower in UK so we need all the help we can get.

Diesel engines that run on Bio are great and dont have the carbon foot print, I see where some tax and other relief for using it are growing. It may not be the ultiamate answer however in the next 10-20 yrs it's expanded use will definately help. But what I dont want to see is the Bush oil cronies get a choke hold on this too ie; Bush & Cheny = Haliburton & Black Water.
Flying a light plane from Minnapolis to Spokane last year at low level I could see miles and miles of "Parked Farm Land" that could be used for growing Bio -Stock with out really impacting the food farms.
I think it's all about the profit in Big Oil and to say nothing about The Fed Gov rakes in a day accross the Country in Gas Tax.
In the end we need to use hydrogen,Sloar,Electric or something other than fossil fuels.Wadges have not gone up to even come close to covering the increased cost of just going to work heating your house.
Currently looking for ways to get in the biodiesel business moe than just a home brew set-up

You're right.Biodiesel can help but it's not the total solution. The important thing is for local communities to build co-operative ventures that re-cycle the local waste oil. This keeps out big business, to a degree. If we all sit around and do nothing, big business will appear. Even if just a few people make their own fuel it helps. Keep the faith.
